Homeless Teens

My series on homeless teens is on the Michigan Radio website. I’m incredibly proud of this series, so please take a listen.

The Connection
The Connection

The teenagers I met were tenacious and spirited. I am always so honored and moved when people open themselves up and tell me their stories, especially when those stories and memories are painful. These teens did that over and over with total grace.

Meanwhile…I’ve been doing some teaching gigs which I really like. Here I am, teaching peeps some stuff…

Actually it was a workshop on interviewing & storytelling. My basic message when interviewing: follow your gut and your heart WAY more than your head. And this will steer you in the right direction.

  1. Great work on this, Kyle. The issue of homeless teens, especially in smaller towns like Howell, is really an issue to which many people are ignorant. It is tragedy that these often creative and resourceful young people are left as unseen members of our society. Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention.

  2. Dear Kyle,

I just wanted to say thanks for spreading the word about homeless youth. Such an important cause that few people really even know about. Bravo for doing your part!

Here in Detroit, we have all volunteer outreach teams that go out to the streets in and around Detroit to try and reach kids who are homeless and help get them into shelters, back into school, and various other needs they may have- such as mentoring, clothing, food, hygiene, medical assistance, etc.

I would love to meet you one day to talk about ways we can collaborate to produce more awareness on this important issue!

If you are in the Detroit area this Friday Feb 20th from 7p-Midnight, Metro Times and The Lofts at New Amsterdam are hosting “Verve Detroit” a loft party to benefit StandUp For Kids in our fight against youth homelessness. $10 Admission Gets you in to the FUN event which will have open bar, food and live entertainment. I will be there so why dont you come by and introduce yourself!

Take care and keep up the good work!
